Everything was said about the pilots, but the ground crew were a little forgotten. Without these men successes of Urbanowicz or Zumbach would not have happened. These people – “grey roots of colourful flowers" as Arkady Fiedler wrote in his book “Squadron 303" – allowed the pilots to enter the combat every day with an airworthy plane. The ground crews made superhuman efforts during the repairs of airplanes, making them ready to fly and fight. Their job was “readiness from dawn till dusk". It is worth mentioning that during the Battle of Britain it came out that the technical and ground service is significant equally to frontline units. This rule is still valid on modern battlefield.
