September 15 was the hottest day of the Battle of Britain. This also was the day when the 302 squadron entered the combat. On the very first day of action, the Polish pilots from the 302 squadron proved their high skills achieving 11 confirmed and 7 probable kills. The pilots from the 303 squadron achieved 16 kills in two flights, beating their own record of 14 “one day kills" set up on September 7. A few days later telegrams with congratulations were sent to the Polish pilots. One of them was written by Director General of BBC: "The BBC sends warm greetings to the famous 303 Polish Squadron with lively congratulations upon its magnificent record and all best wishes for its future. You use the Air for your gallant exploits and we for telling the world of them. Long live Poland!". (-) F.W. Ogilvie Director General
